The 2015 NFADA Ron Smith Memorial High School AutoTech Competition, an annual event sponsored by the Niagara Frontier Automobile Dealers Association and Erie Community College, will take place on Saturday, January 17th.

Enhanced Ebola Screening to Commence in U.S. Airports

 

On Oct. 11, 2014, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Department of Homeland Security’s Customs & Border Protection (CBP) commenced screening for the Ebola virus at select U.S. airports. Starting with New York’s JFK Airport, all travelers from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone will now undergo enhanced entry screening in an effort to detect overt signs of the deadly illness. This week, Washington-Dulles, Newark, Chicago O-Hare and Atlanta International airports will follow suit. These five airports receive over 94 percent of travelers from the Ebola-affected nations.

Phasing to ‘Next Generation’ NEXUS Kiosks has Begun

 

The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) has announced that they will begin to replace the current NEXUS kiosks with “next generation” kiosks. The new kiosks will be faster and more reliable, in addition to increasing the efficiency of services in air travel. 

For those unfamiliar with the program, under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, the NEXUS card is an approved alternative to the passport for air, land and sea travel into the United States and Canada for U.S. and Canadian citizens. The program allows pre-screened travelers expedited processing through designated lanes.

The Resource Training Center’s “Alive at 25” program will team up with the AT&T “It Can Wait” anti texting and driving campaign at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, to deliver a simple message — when it comes to texting and driving, it can wait! The program will be offered in the Harlem Road Community Center at 4255 Harlem Road, Amherst.

CBP Announces New Mobile Passport Control App

 

U.S. Customs and Border Protection recently announced the launch of the first authorized app to expedite a traveler’s entry process into the U.S. The app, Mobile Passport Control, or MPC, will allow eligible travelers to submit their passport information and customs declaration form via a Smartphone or tablet prior to CBP inspection. 

The app was developed by Airside Mobile and Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) in partnership with CBP as part of a pilot program at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The app became available to eligible travelers arriving at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International on Aug. 13. MPC is expected to expand to more airports later this year.

Rainbow, Whirlpool, and Lewiston-Queenston Bridge Crossings to Begin Accepting E-ZPass® Toll Payment

Today the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission (NFBC) announced that implementation of the E-ZPass tolling program will take effect at the Rainbow, Whirlpool, and Lewiston-Queenston international bridge spans as of August 11, 2014.  The new E-ZPass program will supplement existing ExpressPass, Commercial ExpressPass, and pre-loaded NEXUS/Toll card offerings currently available to motorists.

 

“After a very successful period of program testing and coordination, the commission is prepared to launch the E-ZPass program at all of our bridge crossings early next month,” said Niagara Falls Bridge Commission General Manager Lew Holloway. “We expect a smooth introduction of the program and believe this additional tolling feature will provide yet another convenient tool for motorists.”

Whirlpool-Rapids Bridge Inspection Lane Construction to Result in Canada-Bound Traffic Closure

LEWISTON, NY – Today the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission (NFBC) announced the upcoming installation of a second primary inspection lane within the Canada plaza at the Whirlpool-Rapids International Bridge crossing. This construction project—scheduled to commence on September 2nd, 2014, and conclude on or before October 9th, 2014—is being undertaken to increase processing capacity at the crossing. The Whirlpool-Rapids Bridge has recently experienced rapid increases in usage and wait times, due to the growing popularity of the NEXUS trusted travel program.
