Rainbow, Whirlpool, and Lewiston-Queenston Bridge Crossings to Begin Accepting E-ZPass® Toll Payment

Today the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission (NFBC) announced that implementation of the E-ZPass tolling program will take effect at the Rainbow, Whirlpool, and Lewiston-Queenston international bridge spans as of August 11, 2014.  The new E-ZPass program will supplement existing ExpressPass, Commercial ExpressPass, and pre-loaded NEXUS/Toll card offerings currently available to motorists.

“After a very successful period of program testing and coordination, the commission is prepared to launch the E-ZPass program at all of our bridge crossings early next month,” said Niagara Falls Bridge Commission General Manager Lew Holloway. “We expect a smooth introduction of the program and believe this additional tolling feature will provide yet another convenient tool for motorists.”

Make a Designated Driver Part of Your Fourth of July Plans

With backyard parties, cookouts and fireworks, the July 4th holiday is a favorite time of year for many Americans. But the celebrating can turn deadly when people drive after drinking alcohol.

“Impaired driving can turn celebrations into tragedy in an instant,” said Monica Farrar, director of The Resource Training Center Drinking Driver Program. “With July 4th approaching, we’re reminding people of the cost of impaired driving. In 2012, 179 people were killed in crashes over this holiday period. Of those deaths, 44 percent were in crashes that involved alcohol.

Peace Bridge Construction Project Approved

Peace Bridge Construction Project Approved

A construction proposal that would dramatically reshape the Peace Bridge was approved by the federal government this past week. The project’s main focus will be to improve the way vehicles get on and off the Peace Bridge. The project will cost an estimated $35 million with the creation of new entrance and exit ramps, and a pedestrian bridge to the shoreline trail.

The work is intended to get rid of the confusing lane-switching maze that often disrupts traffic going on and off the bridge. The new work will also put an end to the ability of some drivers to mistakenly skip right through the primary border security checkpoint. This will allow border agents to shift from having to watch for such incidents to devoting their full attention to quickly processing vehicles.
