5K Run in the Country to Benefit Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village

Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village invites runners across Western New York to participate in the second annual 5K Run in the Country on Saturday, Sept. 28. Runners and walkers will enjoy a flat, fast and scenic certified course that begins and ends at Heritage Village, 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road, Amherst.

In addition to the natural beauty of the scenic course, awards for various age groups are being specially handcrafted by the skilled Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village blacksmith. These unique awards are sure to become the main attraction in any trophy case. The first 200 prepaid registrants will also receive a commemorative long-sleeve T-shirt.

Fantasy Football Comes to All Three Seneca Casinos for the 2013 Season

NIAGARA FALLS, SALAMANCA and BUFFALO, N.Y. – Two great offerings – Seneca Casinos and fantasy sports – are now one for the 2013 football season. Every day from September 2 through December 29, guests can head to each of the three Seneca Casino locations in Western New York to play fantasy football for free and win a share of cash and prizes in the $175,000 All-Star Fantasy Football Challenge.

Playing is simple, quick and fun. At all three Seneca Casinos, interactive kiosks will be available in the lobbies and other select areas on property. Using a free Seneca Player’s Club card, guests can play every day at each property starting on Mondays at noon through Sundays at 11 a.m. for the Sunday and Monday football games the following week.

Seneca Niagara Casino Announces Upcoming Dates for Free Learn-to-Play Table Games Sessions

Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel announces upcoming dates in August and September for its recently unveiled learn-to-play table games sessions. The free, ongoing initiative offers guests the opportunity to get comfortable with some of the liveliest games on the casino floor, such as blackjack, roulette, craps, mini-baccarat and brand-new offerings like Blackjack Switch and Mississippi Stud Poker.

The learn-to-play sessions are offered every other Wednesday each month. All participants will be able to learn the rules, ask questions and try table games with “play money.” There is even a monthly $10 match play incentive for attending.

Sessions take place from noon to 1 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. in the table games pit directly in front of the main casino cage area. The upcoming learn-to-play schedule is as follows:

With thoughts slowly turning to back-to-school, parents are reminded to take precautions as their sons and daughters ready to make their return to the popular fall and winter sports. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Ophthalmology are both strongly recommending that protective eyewear be worn by all participants in all sports in which there is risk of eye injury.

“Among the popular school sports considered high risk when it comes to the potential for eye injury are basketball, baseball, softball, lacrosse, ice hockey and field hockey,” said Michael Tomasik, owner of Tomasik Optical in Orchard Park and Lackawanna. “Sports in the moderate risk category include tennis, soccer, volleyball and football.

The Valley Community Association is pleased to announce that on August 26, 2013, the center will be hosting its 3rd Annual Golf Tournament at Lancaster Country Club. Lunch and registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and includes soda, grilled chicken, Italian sausage, hot dogs, hamburgers, salad and desserts. 

The 4 person scramble format will begin with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. sharp. Beer and refreshments on the course. The tournament dinner will be catered by BW’s Barbecue and take place at Buffalo River Fest Park, 249 Ohio Street, Buffalo, NY, 14203, beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be great prizes for the various contests.

The cost per golfer is $100. Limited transportation in mini-buses will be available.

Stroller Strides Family Class to benefit Women & Children's Hospital

Stroller Strides/Fit4Mom Buffalo will host a FREE family fitness class at 9 a.m. Sunday, July 21 at Glen Falls Park in Williamsville. Please meet in the parking lot located at Glen Avenue and Mill Street.

 

This event is open to everyone and attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to be donated to Women and Children's Hospital as part of Assemblyman Ray Walter's Christmas in July Toy Drive. The toys will be delivered to the hospital by Santa and will bring many smiles to the faces of children receiving them.

 

This is a fun opportunity to enjoy a family friendly workout in beautiful Glen Falls Park and to show your support to children being cared for at Women and Children's Hospital.

Clerk to host community outreach effort

Erie County, NY – Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs wants to prompt pistol permit holders who have not yet completed their Public Records Exemptions forms, also known as the “Opt-Out” form, that his office is still accepting them. Individual permit holders have another opportunity to complete and submit the form during a Community Outreach on Tuesday, July 9th from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the Northtown Auto Bureau, located in the Northtown Plaza, 3095 Sheridan Drive, Amherst, NY.
