Listen to Franco's Pizza Owner Franco Kroese on Eat It Up!

Listen to Franco's Pizza Owner Franco Kroese on Eat It Up!

This week on Eat It Up we have Franco Kroese, the owner of Franco’s Pizza, one of Buffalo’s most popular pizzerias.  I’ve actually known Franco for a long time, way before Buffalo Eats was ever an idea (spoiler: he’s my uncle).  Last month he came over to the Buffalo Eats Studio to talk about how he went from a single pizzeria on the East Side to the 5 Northtown locations he owns now.  I actually had never heard the story myself and we go into why he even started a pizzeria in the first place.  If you ever find yourself in the Northtowns, make sure you stop by one of his locations and grab a slice.

Nickel City Cheese & Mercantile Opens in Elmwood Village

Nickel City Cheese & Mercantile Opens in Elmwood Village

By Nina Barone

Nickel City Cheese & Mercantile, a full service, European inspired, neighborhood cheese and specialty food store, recently opened in the Elmwood Village. In 2010, the Elmwood Village Association conducted a consumer needs survey and identified a cheese shop as one of the top five businesses people would like to see open on Elmwood Avenue. Respondents identified the need for five specific niche businesses: cheese store, hardware store, sporting goods store, butcher shop and seafood store.

Located at 423 Elmwood Ave. in Buffalo, Nickel City Cheese & Mercantile’s current hours of operation are Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; and closed on Sunday.

Walden Galleria to Host "Red Cross Night"

March is Red Cross Month, and Walden Galleria is supporting the local Chapter through “Red Cross Night” this Wednesday, March 7th. From 5pm until closing time, three Walden Galleria restaurants-Bravo, Gordon Biersch and The Melting Pot-will donate 10% of every customer’s bill to the American Red Cross, Serving Erie & Niagara Counties.

“We are so grateful to Walden Galleria for supporting our mission of preventing, preparing for and responding to disaster here in Western New York,” said Emily Shafer, American Red Cross Development Associate. “The best part of this event is that customers can support the Red Cross by doing nothing more than enjoying a great meal with their friends or family on Wednesday evening.”

Heritage Polish Tavern Serves Up Unique Fish Fry Dinners

Heritage Polish Tavern Serves Up Unique Fish Fry Dinners

It's a Buffalo dining tradition just as famous as chicken wings and beef on weck. The friday night fish fry dinner is a relic from the days when family owned taverns could be found on every street corner in every Buffalo neighborhood. The R&L Lounge is the LAST of these old family owned Polish taverns in Buffalo.

Lottie & Ronnie have been serving up authentic, pan fried Buffalo fish fry dinners for over 40 years. One of the most unique places that remain of "Old Buffalo." Located in the Historic Polonia District, only 2 miles from Niagara Square in Downtown Buffalo. 23 Mills Street, Buffalo, New York. Join the R&L on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/RanLLounge

Award Winning English Cuisine in Our Backyard!

Award Winning English Cuisine in Our Backyard!

It was back in May of this year when I first found out about the English Pork Pie Company from an article on Buffalo Rising about the successful husband and wife bakers that had been outgrowing their Cheektowaga bakery.  Since then the award winning English Pork Pie Company have moved to a much larger location on South Park in South Buffalo for their growing business.  At the moment you can currently buy their frozen goods at their store front, but the owners hope to eventually open their own version of a “Little Britain” with a restaurant/pub and specialty shops.

Buffalo Eats Debuts their Podcast "Eat It Up"

Buffalo Eats Debuts their Podcast "Eat It Up"

Today on Buffalo Eats I'm are proud to debut the first episode of our podcast, Eat It Up!  This is something I’ve wanted to do for years and I think our first episode came out really well.  Our producer Tom put a lot of work into the quality of the audio to make sure that we sounded as professional as possible.  We also couldn’t have asked for a better first guest; Christa Glennie Seychew is not only one of the most important people in Buffalo’s restaurant/food scene but she’s also a great person to talk to about food and our conversation could have went on for well over an hour.  Christa is the founder of Feed Your Soul which is behind the very popular Nickel City Chef and is currently the Food Editor at the Buffalo Spree.
