A Press Release from the Office of Congresswoman Louise Slaughter
WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (NY-28), Ranking Member of the House Rules Committee, today released the following statement after House Republicans agreed to pass a two-month extension of the payroll-tax cut and unemployment insurance. The agreement will provide tax relief for 160 million Americans, and extend unemployment insurance for 2.2 million Americans.
“We should have given Americans a tax cut on Monday, when we were all in town and prepared to send this bill to the President. Instead we got dangerous theatrics. It’s a shameful way of doing business. But I am pleased to see that we are moving ahead with this tax cut for middle class families, reimbursement for doctors, and vital unemployment insurance to Americans during this holiday season.”
