United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand visits the Matt Urban Center

As temperatures drop and heating bills soar, United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (NY) came to the Matt Urban Center today to discuss Weatherization Programming. She urged the current administration to fund the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) to helps families reduce energy bills by making homes more energy efficient.

In New York, WAP is administered by the Division of Homes and Community Renewal (DHCR), which distributes funds to local affiliates, like the Matt urban Center, who manage the program in each county.  Assistance is available to both homeowners and renters who pay their own utility costs through local weatherization providers in each of New York’s 62 counties.  Energy efficiency measures performed through the program include air sealing (weather-stripping, caulking), wall and ceiling insulation, heating system improvements or replacement, efficiency improvements in lighting, hot water tank and pipe insulation, and refrigerator replacements with highly efficient Energy Star rated units.

This program supports local construction, small business and manufacturing jobs. With every $1 invested, Weatherization returns $2.51 in benefits to households and community.

If you are interested in learning more or applying for Weatherization, please contact the Matt Urban Center, 1081 Broadway, Buffalo NY 14212 or call 716.893.7222 x 218.
