Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Donates $1 Million to Kaleida Health

The Kaleida Health Foundation today announced a $1 million donation by Ralph and Mary Wilson through the Ralph C. Wilson Foundation to support adult day care and home care in Western New York.

Mary Wilson was on hand to present the gift from the Ralph C. Wilson Foundation to James R. Kaskie, president and CEO of Kaleida Health, at the DeGraff Memorial Hospital Adult Day Care Center in North Tonawanda.

“On behalf of all of the patients we serve, I want to thank the Wilson’s for their generosity,” said James R. Kaskie, the president and CEO of Kaleida Health. “Their compassion and caring will directly impact our adult day care patients as well as those we serve in home care.”

The funding will be used to subsidize the cost of attendance and transportation to the adult day care program.  It will also provide funding for programmatic activities and much needed capital purchases such as equipment and supplies.

ECMC Invests $150 Million in ‘Health Campus’ -- Great Lakes Health Collaboration Stimulates Centers

BUFFALO, NY Nov. 23, 2010 – Erie County Medical Center today outlined a dramatic expansion of its ‘Health Campus,’ highlighting $150 million in work on a new long-term care facility, a 333-vehicle parking ramp, a transplant and kidney center of excellence, an orthopedic expansion, a refurbishing of the adolescent psychiatric clinic, and other major projects to enhance patient care at the Medical Center.

Expansion work on the Health Campus commenced this fall on a $27 million Center of Excellence for Renal Disease and Transplant Services that is part of a consolidation of the Transplant and Dialysis programs with Kaleida and Great Lakes Health.

Work on the new state-of-the-art 390-bed long-term care facility on the Grider campus begins next spring.

Primordial Strength’s Marine Training Methods Receive Endorsements

The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and The Cooper Institute have approved Primordial Strength Inc.’s Marine Functional Force Training for continuing education units for all NASM- and Cooper Institute-certified trainers. 

Community Health Foundation of Western & Central NY Awards $300,000 in Grants to Reduce Falls

The Community Health Foundation of Western and Central New York announced today that it is investing an additional $300,000 to expand the work of its Fall Prevention Collaborative. The new funding will be used to support the development of new community coalitions and initiatives throughout Western and Central New York.  Since 2007, the Foundation has invested more than $600,000 in grants and related projects to reduce or eliminate the risks associated with falls.  According to the New York State Department of Health, falls account for approximately $1.7 billion in annual hospitalization costs.

Local Fitness Instructor Named Ambassador to Sports Legacy Institute

Primordial Strength Inc. President Steven Helmicki of East Aurora was recently named a Sports Legacy Institute Ambassador. The mission of the Sports Legacy Institute is to advance the study, treatment and prevention of the effects of brain trauma in athletes and other at-risk groups. SLI was founded in 2007 to “Solve the Sports Concussion Crisis,” and in 2009, SLI launched programs to also serve military veterans. 

Health Day at the Response to Love Center

The New York State Department of Health is sponsoring 'A Day of Health' at the Response to Love Center, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., November 18, at 130 Kosciuszko Street.

Free flu shots will be offered by the Visiting Nursing' Association. Free health screenings and other services also available.
