Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market Lists July 12 Highlights

 

The popular Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, featuring nearly 40 vendors selling fresh, seasonal and local produce and products, continues its 15th season on July 12. A program of the Elmwood Village Association, the market is held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, rain or shine, through Nov. 29. 

Providing musical entertainment on July 12 (weather permitting) will be singer/guitarist Don Z. from 9:30 to 11 a.m, followed by Birdie Cree from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Lexington Co-operative Market will occupy the community group table this Saturday.

Beginning Saturday, July 5, the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market in Buffalo will serve as a pilot site for a new incentive program called Double Up For Bucks. This program has been arranged by the Field & Fork Network in order to provide the Western New York region with further access to fresh and healthy food.

Providing musical entertainment on July 5 (weather permitting) will be the Nickel City String Band from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The market also welcomes two community groups this Saturday — KidBiz and Liberty Mutual.

With backyard parties, cookouts and fireworks, the July 4th holiday is a favorite time of year for many Americans. But the celebrating can turn deadly when people drive after drinking alcohol.  

“Impaired driving can turn celebrations into tragedy in an instant,” said Monica Farrar, director of The Resource Training Center Drinking Driver Program. “With July 4th approaching, we’re reminding people of the cost of impaired driving. In 2012, 179 people were killed in crashes over this holiday period. Of those deaths, 44 percent were in crashes that involved alcohol.

Saudi Students Explore Global Health Issues in Daemen Program

A group of Saudi Arabian medical students are gaining a better understanding of global health issues and the U.S. health care field while also experiencing American culture through a three-week Summer Enrichment Program being held at Daemen College.

The third annual residential program, which is offered as part of a Daemen-Jazan University international education agreement, has brought 10 Saudi Arabian students to the Daemen campus to take part in this unique learning experience that started on June 9.

“This program is a tremendous opportunity for the students to learn about the U.S. health care system from a variety of highly skilled and experienced practitioners,” said Dr. Patricia Brown, vice president for enrollment management. “It also exposes them to a different culture and new experiences at Daemen and in our Western New York region.”

USCIS Changes Policy on Validity of Medical Form I-693

United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released a memo on May 30, 2014, issuing a new policy on the validity of Form I-693, the report of medical examination and vaccination record. The new policy states that Form I-693 will now only be valid for one year from the date the form was submitted to USCIS. The form must also now be submitted within one year of the foreign national receiving the medical examination.

No Frills Buffalo Plans Golf Outing to Benefit Hospice Foundation

 

No Frills Buffalo publishing company’s annual golf outing to benefit the Hospice Foundation will take place on Friday, July 11, at Chestnut Hill Country Club, 1330 Broadway, Darien Center.

Individual golfers, foursomes and sponsors are still being sought for the annual “Come Get Some” golf outing. Registration and lunch begins at 12:30 p.m., followed by a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start.
