Pet Connection Plans November Community Events

November is shaping up to be a very busy month for the volunteers of Pet Connection Programs Inc., a maternity and special care animal shelter located in Marilla.

On Friday, November 5, volunteers and puppies will visit one of Buffalo’s most historically significant buildings — the Larkin at Exchange Building — from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Walsh Insurance Group Donates $50,000 to the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy

On Saturday, October 23rd, over 100 employees from the Walsh Insurance Group donated their time to plant 150 trees and dozens of flower bulbs along the ring road in Delaware Park.  These new trees and their maintenance will be paid for by a generous donation of $50,000 from the Walsh Insurance Group and their subsidiaries.

Popular Author of Young Adult Books Gives Free Presentation

“Gilda found it unbearably dull to be stuck in the single identity of ‘Gilda Joyce, thirteen-year-old,’ and she often wore costumes just to make life more interesting,” taken from the book, Gilda Joyce Psychic Investigator.  Author Jennifer Allison visits Buffalo’s Crane Library to speak about the creative writing process from story to the printed page and will read from her forthcoming book, Gilda Joyce and The Bones of the Holy.

Robotic Dinosaurs Run Extended Through Columbus Day Holiday

Buffalo Museum of Science will be open to the public on Monday, October 11 from 10am to 4pm

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo Museum of Science will extend the run of its travelling exhibit, Robotic Dinosaurs, through Monday, October 11 in order to provide families with a fun activity on their days off from work and school. This will be the final day for visitors to experience the exhibit before it closes.

Originally scheduled to close on October 10, Robotic Dinosaurs offers guests an up-close view of nine robotic dinosaurs including Tyrannosaurus Rex, Apatosaurus, Pachycephalosaurus, an adult Maiasaura with eggs and hatchlings, Stegosaurus and a Pteranodon. Visitors young and old can operate a hands-on control box to move the “skeleton” of a Duckbill or feel like true paleontologists at the fossil rub stations.

Buffalo Zoo's Curator of Education to Observe Polar Bears in the Wild as Part of PBI Leadership Camp

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Tiffany Vanderwerf, the Buffalo Zoo’s Curator of Education, will travel to the tundra near Churchill, Manitoba, Canada, from October 3-9 for a Communicators Leadership Camp sponsored by Polar Bears International (PBI), a conservation group. The Buffalo Zoo, which is part of PBI’s network of Arctic Ambassador Center Zoos, selected Vanderwerf based on her past outreach and community involvement. She will join 18 other educators and public relations professionals from the U.S. and Canada.

Home Repair Funding Just Awarded

The Matt Urban Center has been awarded $700,000 by the Affordable Housing Corporation and the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal to administer an owner-occupied repair program to assist low income homeowners in a targeted area of East Buffalo.

Some units will be targeted for persons who are elderly and persons with physical disabilities. Additional funding will be provided by the NYS DHCR Weatherization Assistance Program. Program to open in 2011.
