Elmwood Village Farmers Market Plans Eight-week Indoor Holiday Market

The Elmwood Village Farmers Market, Western New York most popular outdoor farmers’ market, will extend its season by eight weeks with an indoor Holiday Market on Bidwell. The Holiday Market will take place inside St. John’s Grace Episcopal Church, 51 Colonial Circle, Buffalo, just steps away from the outdoor market’s location at Elmwood Avenue and Bidwell Parkway.

Sports Collectors Expo Coming to Batavia in November

Batavia Downs Gaming Center, 8315 Park Road, Batavia, will host an impressive lineup of professional athletes at the Sports Collectors Expo the weekend of Nov. 18-19.

Scheduled to appear on Saturday, Nov. 18, are:
NBA/Syracuse University: John Wallace, Billy Owens, Lawrence Moten, Roosevelt Bouie, Dale Shackleford and Rafael Addison.
NHL: Jacques Cloutier, Gary Bromley, Mike Palmateer, Doug Favell and Hall of Fame member Marcel Dionne,
MLB: Frank Viola, Bill Lee, Floyd Rayford, Glenn Gulliver, Ross Grimsley and Sammy Stewart.
NFL: Hall of Fame member Leroy Kelly.

Scheduled to appear on Sunday, Nov. 19, are NFL stars Eric Moulds, Greg Bell, Billy Shaw, Butch Byrd, Jerry Butler, Darryl Talley, Cornelius Bennett, Russell Copeland, Ron McDole, Paul Guidry and Mike Stratton. Also scheduled to appear is Notre Dame football legend Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger.

Explore Buffalo Says ‘Come On In’ for a November Adventure

The Buffalo tour season is far from over! While many walking tours will still take place in November, Explore Buffalo will also take you inside downtown buildings, Blessed Trinity Church, Goldome Bank, Larkin Center, St. Mary’s School for the Deaf and even the subway system! 

Two City of Light Bus tours are also offered in November along with the Fall Speaker Series. Advance reservations are encouraged but not required for all tours. All credit card payments must be made in advance. Advance reservations with a credit card can be made online until the tour starting time. Cash or checks are accepted at the start of the tour. If you make an advance reservation, please print your confirmation email or be prepared to show it on your phone. Most tours are between 90 minutes and two hours in length. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather!

‘The Last Descent’ Screening to Include Discussion With Lead Actor

AMHERST, N.Y. – “The Last Descent,” starring Daemen College alumnus Chadwick Hopson, ’10, will be screened at a campus premiere scheduled for 5 p.m. Nov. 2 in the Research and Information Commons Room 120.

A question and answer session with Hopson will be held at 7 p.m. following the special film screening. Daniel Shanahan, assistant professor and coordinator of the entrepreneurism program, will serve as moderator.

The critically acclaimed “The Last Descent” is inspired by the 2009 rescue attempt of John Jones, a medical student who became trapped in Nutty Putty Cave in Utah. For his role, Hopson earned his first major award as best leading actor in a feature film at the 2017 Utah Film Awards.

Vendors Sought for Collectors & Artisans Expo; Event to Benefit Local Organizations

Fresh off a successful first Collectors’ Expo in September, a second Collectors & Artisans Expo has been scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, in the historic Buffalo Irish Center, 245 Abbott Road, South Buffalo.

“We’re very excited to be bringing the Expo back to Buffalo’s Irish Heritage District just one week before the city celebrates St. Patrick’s Day,” said Joe Kirchmyer of West Seneca, organizer of the event. “We are currently accepting new vendors who can bring interesting items to the Expo such as sports memorabilia, coins, stamps, antiques, original artwork, handcrafted goods, trains, toys, bottles, comic books, music and theatre memorabilia, and more.”

Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Association to Host Head of the Buffalo Regatta

Four teams of young rowers will compete in Buffalo on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Head of the Buffalo Regatta hosted by the Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Association (BSRA). The event will kick off from the BSRA boathouse at 405 Ohio St.  

Competing in the event will be Team BSRA Girls, as well as teams from Buffalo Seminary, City Honors and Mercyhurst High School in Erie, Pa. Racing will take place from approximately 9:40 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Founded in 2010, the nonprofit BSRA provides community access to rowing on the Buffalo River. The organization offers high school, adult (masters), Learn to Row and We Can Row programs.

An iconic Western New York tradition like no other, the Christmas in the Country Holiday Artisan Market will celebrate its 33rd season when it returns to the Hamburg Fairgrounds Nov. 2-5. Patrons will discover more than 400 artisans spread out over five buildings, a Food Truck Rodeo for dining and The Tavern featuring handcrafted beverages, wines and spirits. Patrons can also connect and interact with the creators of countless product lines at the event.

Once again this year, Christmas in the Country will offer complimentary return passes so patrons can enjoy the sights, sounds and scents of this one-of-a-kind shopping experience all weekend long.
