A Statement from B Team Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. – A group of veterans were almost left without holiday decorations after someone stole extension cords and lights from five monuments at Hero’s Grove in Houghton Park.  Dan Derfert, an active member of Veterans & Friends of Hero’s Grove, noticed the lights were missing during his usual nightly drive by.

Members of Veterans & Friends of Hero’s Grove spend their free time beautifying the park area near five veterans’ monuments at Hero’s Grove in Kaisertown’s Houghton Park.  After a recent theft, the park faced a holiday season without lights.

The veterans reached out to Senator Tim Kennedy, who reimbursed the organization for the lights and extension cords that were stolen.  Senator Kennedy then contacted the B_Team Buffalo.

Senator Tim Kennedy, Councilman Rich Fontana, members of Veterans and Friends of Hero’s Grove and members of the B_Team Buffalo replaced the lights at Houghton Park on Wednesday.

The B_Team is a group of  young leaders who create and execute high-impact projects aimed at creating a sense of pride and civic engagement in Buffalo.  The organization recently hosted their annual City of Light event where they worked with neighbors to light up an entire Riverside neighborhood for the holiday season.
