Local Politicians Visit the Matt Urban Center to Discuss Housing

Assemblyman Vito J. Lopez (D - Brooklyn), the Housing Chair of the New York State Assembly, and Assemblywoman Crystal Davis Peoples-Stokes (D-Buffalo), visited the Matt Urban Center (1081 Broadway, Buffalo, NY 14212) today for an agency and neighborhood tour.

We used this wonderful opportunity to examine and discuss the preservation of affordable housing for low-income and moderate-income families. We also examined policies and programs to address unemployment, environmental hazards, and the creation and sustainability of quality affordable rental and homeownership opportunities.

Assemblyman Lopez and Assemblywoman People-Stokes toured the agency headquarters on Broadway and the newly constructed Monroe Place (296 Monroe Street in Buffalo). Monroe Place is owned and operated by the Matt Urban Center and leased to Gateway Longview youth who have aged out of the foster care system. This building was constructed in 2010 by the New York State Homeless Housing and Assistance Program and the New York Federal Home Loan Bank.
