Canisius College Presents the Three Doctors, in Honor of Black History Month

BUFFALO, NY – Canisius College presents the nationally-known motivational speaking trio, the Three Doctors, on Friday, February 18, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Zion Dominion Global Ministries, 895 North Forest Road, Williamsville. The event, sponsored by the college’s Academic Talent Search Program, is free and open to the public.

The Three Doctors – Drs. Sampson Davis, Rameck Hunt and George Jenkins – will share their inspirational stories of the pact they made as inner-city youth to help one another overcome major obstacles in order to reach their goals to become doctors. Davis, Hunt and Jenkins grew up without fathers in the streets of Newark, and know firsthand the pressures and struggles of life in the inner city. Today, the Three Doctors spread their positive messages about the importance of education and healthy living to youth across the country.

Richardson Olmsted Complex January 26th Public Meeting

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Please join the Richardson Center Corporation on Wednesday, January 26, 6:00 pm at Rockwell Hall Performing Arts Center for an informational and interactive meeting on the Richardson Olmsted Complex South Lawn. 

The South Lawn will be a welcoming landscape for public enjoyment. As an important component of the Master Plan Core Project, the South Lawn landscape, circulation and entry encompasses a 4 acre area between the Towers Building and Forest Avenue. The design plans carry out a contemporary interpretation of the Olmsted design for new and existing users.  

At the meeting, plans for this $4 million construction project will be unveiled and the community will have the opportunity for discussion. Updates on the Master Plan, stabilization, parking relocation, ownership and implementation schedule will also be presented.  Questions? Call (716) 849-6070 or email.

Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market Announces 2011 Poster Competition

The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market started a new tradition in 2010 by creating its very first Market poster. The Market would like to continue that tradition in 2011, and they’re asking for your help! Whether you’re a student studying the arts, a professional graphic designer or just someone with a creative streak, you’re invited to submit your design for an 11x17-inch color poster that accurately reflects the feel of the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market.

"They Kept Their Word": An Exhibit on Historical African American Women's Literary Societies

The Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society presents an exhibit delving into the rich and influential history of African American Women’s Literary Societies in the Buffalo region. “They Kept Their Word: African American Women's Literary Societies and Their Legacy” opens with a reception on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011 at 2 p.m.

This opening reception coincides with a Martin Luther King program at the Historical Society, sponsored by the Afro American Historical Association of the Niagara Frontier, which will take place at 3 p.m. on the same day. ("African Americans, the Civil War & Martin Luther King's Legacy" is the theme of the MLK program; speaker Harry Matthews Bradshaw will offer a talk on the subject.)
